Had enough of annoying, pre-roll ads while trying to watch your videos on Youtube? Do you even watch these ads or do you wait for the “click to skip” countdown button? Finally, it leads to one question, “do these pre-roll video ads even work”? It is clear that Youtube has been facing problems in selling advertising space. However, it seems as though they have not been choosing the right techniques to sell ad space. One of these includes pre-roll ads.

What Are Pre-Roll Ads?

For those of you who are unclear of what pre-roll ads are, it is considered to be the most annoying form of advertising on the net. Pre-rolls are the commercials that are displayed before your video begins. It cannot be skipped or fast-forwarded. It is very unfortunate for those who intend to watch videos that are 45 seconds along with a pre-roll commercial of 30 seconds. Furthermore, when surveyed on the attitudes towards pre-roll video advertising, stats show that approximately 50% of Youtube viewers never even click on the ad associated with the online video. While we are bombarded with all these different types of ads online, do we ever consider the fact that we get to watch any video of our choice for free? Must be too good to be true to enjoy something for free without a catch. Google always claims to “put their users first” but one might wonder, are they really putting their users first, or are they risking losing their loyal user base.
