Hyundai, one of the world’s leading vehicle manufacturers has recently launched a controversial video Ad which some may deem offensive. This is another case when Ads don’t always work to the benefit of the advertiser, and can sometimes work against them. The creative team of a marketing agency may take a great risk at times and cannot ensure positive feedback from the advertisement. They cannot always guarantee a positive impact on the target market. Sometimes creative individuals may go to the extent of putting their careers on the line.

What were they thinking

Hyundai had to pull off the Ad right after it became viral over the internet – too late. For many people, this ad raised eyebrows but what do you think?

My opinion

With the high rates of suicide around the world today, and individuals witnessing horrible things, before you put an Ad like this, you must tread very carefully and take in consideration the sensitivity of your consumers. I think in this era, people are craving and looking forward to things that leave a smile on their face; A nice chuckle, an inspiring commercial. Maybe Hyundai can take a look at the recent SuperBowl Ads. Precise, clear, and yet still entertaining for the viewer.
